It is Nanka’s intent to enhance the tournament experience for novice ranks. Nanka will be using the following contest rules for the under 16 years old Novice Divisions only.

Each competitor will compete for the full match period as specified below. Score keeper will record all scores and penalties earned during the contest.

·         Yonen Divisions (ages 5 to 12): 2 ½ minutes

·         Shonen Divisions (ages 13 to 16): 3 minutes

At the completion of the match, the score keeper totals the number of Ippons, Wazaris and Shidos attained by the competitors and determines the winner using the following:

1.         Player with the highest number of Ippon wins

2.         If players have the same number of Ippon, then the player with the highest Wazari wins.

·         Wazari Awasette Ippon – will not be given.

3.         If the players have the same number of Wazaris then the player with the least number of Shidos (penalties) wins.

·         At end of match for every three Shido a player has, the competing player is assigned an Ippon.

·         Any Hansoku-make (disqualification) will result in an Ippon to the opposing player

4.         If at the end of the three minutes the players have equal score, the referee will declare Hantei (decision). There will be no Golden Score for Novice matches.
