SUBMISSION GRAPPLING RULES:

This tournament is based on Submission only format where as a successful submission is the clear winner. If the match goes to a referees decisions then submission attempts will be tallied for amount of attacks, the depth of each attacks, the hierarchy of attacks determining the winner should a clear submission not generate a tap from opponents or stoppage by referee.

The referees will break up fights if a competitor is in a submission hold and does not try to escape effectively right away, but it is up to the competitor to tap or optionally continue to compete.

All matches start from standing. Fighters who move outside the border when standing can (at the discretion of the referee) be restarted in the center of the mat. If fighters move outside the area while on the ground (both fighters have at least one knee down) the action will be stopped and they are moved back to the centre of the mat in the last position they were in before going out of bounds. Deliberately or repeatedly moving outside the border will be considered as stalling and penalized accordingly.

Ways to win:

1.) By submission (physical and/or verbal) or by referee stoppage due to submission

2.) Injury or rule infringement (DQ)

3.) If your opponent has to leave the mat / opponent not being on the mat

OUR CLEAR GOALS OF OUR Kickboxing sparring divisions; Light to semi-contact Sparring rounds. In a phrase our rules are based on "show your technique" where each competitor is actively trying NOT to create an environment for injury by only throwing uncontrolled single strikes at 80-100 percent. Northern Combat Challenge has an intention is trying to develop our athletes in an inclusive amateur setting to gain experience to one day be able to step into the final step of getting prepared for a sanctioned ring fight. Our events are supposed to be the stepping stone to get the data necessary to be ready to step into a ring fight which would be a huge step up from our amateur events designed for athlete development. We feel this step is missing ad we are working with many others with the BC Athletic Commission to make sure we do it in the safest way and we want to help keep the best standards for martial arts competition that will work for everyone. Clear rules and educated staff and officiating. We only want to offer the best and safest product and we will keep working towards this goal. e
