Malmö International BJJ Open 2019

Malmö International BJJ Open 2019

We welcome you to the second edition of Malmö International BJJ Open on the 26th of October. This year we have moved to the brand new Hästhagen Sporthall located in the heart of Malmö.

The event is open for all belts for Kids, Juvenile, Adult and masters! There will be no Absolute class for white belts.

Rules

The event will be contested under standard IBJJF rules. You can find them at http://www.ibjjf.org/rules. We will have matches for 3rd place.

Weight Classes

All adult, master & juvenile athletes are to weigh in right before your first match. There will be no additional allowances. Kids will weigh in at the start of the day. You weigh in with the gi on.

For Adults & Masters international weight classes applies. For Kids and Juveniles we are using the weight classes defined by the Swedish Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, see the list below.

However for the Kids, sign them up in the category that they are likely to be on the day of the event as we will adjust the brackets on the day. No child should have to worry about their weight and as such no child will be DQ:ed for their weight. We will simply move them to the correct group.

Juveniles (16-17yr, Boys & Girls)

-48.5kg, -53.5kg, -58.5kg, -64kg, -69kg, -74kg, -79.3kg, -84.3kg, -89.3kg, +89.3kg

Kids (Boys & Girls)

-19kg, -22kg, -25kg, -28kg, -31kg, -34kg, -37kg, -40kg, -44kg, -48kg, -52kg, -56kg, -60kg, -64kg, -68kg, -72kg, +72kg

PRIZE ADULT CLASS

Winners in each adult weight class with at least 2 participants will win 6-months of free access to YogaForBjj.net

Mixed Classes

We aim to offer each athlete a chance to fight, so we might have to combine some classes if there are too few participants. We strive to get at least three (3) athletes per class, but sometimes only two (2) is possible. The mixing of classes will follow the regulations stipulated by the Swedish BJJ Federation.

1) Age. For children there can be a maximum of 3 years between contestants. Kids and Juvenile will never be mixed. Remember that competition age is calculated as (current year - year of birth). Juveniles are eligible to compete against adults in the same belt.

2) Weight. For children there can be a maximum of 2 weight classes difference between contestants.

3) Belts. For children we will either mix white with gray and then yellow and up, or if necessary white - yellow and orange & up. For adults the only belt mixing allowed is female adult division brown and black.

4) Gender. Children under the age of 12 can be mixed across genders. From 12 and up there will be no mixing genders.

If a coach and the parents of an athlete feels that they should be fighting at a higher skill level, weight class or age group a special application should be sent to the federation for consideration. This decision is made on a case-by-case basis.

Absolute Class

To qualify for participation in the Absolute Class the following criteria must be met:

- You must be at least 18 years old.

- You must first have fought in your own weight class.

- You are only allowed to participate in the same belt colour category for Absolute Class as you participated in your own weight class.

- You can sign up on Smoothcomp for absolute up until 12:00 on the day of the event!

For male blue belts the absolute will be split into Light(-76kg) and Heavy(+76kg). You will have to weigh in again for absolute! For all other colors there will be only one absolute class per belt. No aboslute for white belts!

For master, both male and female, there will be one consolidated Absolute with Master 1-7.

There will be prize money for the absolute class for black belt male and female!

The winner of the Male Black belt absolute will win 3000 SEK. The winner of the Black/Brown female absolute class will win 3000 SEK. The winner of the Male Brown belt absolute will win 2000 SEK.

Juveniles & Kids

Juveniles, 16-17 years old, may, if they so wish, also participate in the Adult class, but only in their own weight class. It requires, however, guardian's certificate which will confirm participation in the Adult class. Make sure to bring the signed certificate with you to the event and present it while weighing in. Juveniles competing twice pay only the Adult fee. This option will be suggested to you (if you qualify according to your birth year) when you register at Smoothcomp.com. Juveniles fighting in adult will have to weigh in again for their adult division.

Kids will fight according to the round-robin format so as to ensure as many matches as possible.

Remember that the kids are there to have a fun and enjoyable experience, act accordingly!

Black Belt

If you are a black belt we offer you the opportunity to compete for free at our event.

Directions

Travel from abroad:

The best and cheapest way to fly into Malmö is to fly to Copenhagen in Denmark. From there it's a 35 minute train ride into Malmö straight from the Airport. It is also possible to fly to Malmö Airport, but generally it is more expensive than flying to Copenhagen.

Public Transit:

From Malmö C train station take bus number 8 to bus stop Kronprinsen or bus number 4 to bus stop Simhallsbadet. Both stops are just a short walk from the arena.

Schedule

The first matches of the day will start at 09:00 with some adult divisions.

Doors open at 07:50.

Weigh-ins start at 08:30, ONLY FOR THE ATHLETES ON THE MONITOR

Kids weigh-ins start at 09:30. This means that all children will be called to weigh in. We will start to weigh in the lightest and work our way up, one group at a time. This is to accommodate if a child should be over the limit and we can move them to a better division.

Kids matches are scheduled to start around 10:15. We start with the lightest and work our way up the divisions.

Remaining juvenile, adult and master divisions will step on after the kids. This is scheduled for 13:30 and onwards. Please note that kids division generally go much faster than estimated times so keep track on Smoothcomp! Your matches will very likely be earlier than initially scheduled.

Absolute divisions will be placed at the end the current schedule when the brackets are ready.

Please note that at the end of the day we will move divisions to empty mats should a mat finish ahead of schedule.
