Houston Open Judo Tournament

Welcome to HOJT2018, a judo tournament for kids, juveniles, adults and masters. Sponsored by Diamondback Judo Club and hosted by Friends of Houston Judo, Inc.

HOJT is a mid-sized judo event for Kata competitors and Junior, Jr Novice, Master, Master Novice, Senior Novice, Senior Elite and Senior Open competitors.  $4400 in Senior Prize Money.  Gifts for athletes:  duffel bags (juniors ages 5 to 12), frisbees, rally towels, sports water bottles and more.  Athlete door prize drawing:  sport wrist wallets, sunglasses, water jugs, earbuds, headphones, sport headphones, portable speakers and more.

ELIGIBILITY

Open competition for male and female competitors, at least 5 years of age on day of tournament. Must be current member of USA Judo (USJI), USJA, USJF or ATJF.

Proof of current membership in one of the national organizations must be sent if mailing in entry form. Or, when registering on-line, proof must be shown at Check-in/Weight Verification.No one with expired membership will be allowed to compete.

USJI and USJA membership applications will be available at tournament.

Certificate Regarding Non Black Belt Contestants 

(Not required of Juniors)

Masters, Senior Elite and Senior Open competitors not holding rank of Shodan or higher MUST submit a “Certificate Regarding Non-Black Belt Contestants” form. Team coach can submit a group form.

RULES

 Current IJF rules (modified)

 Current IJF Medical rules

 No Armbars (Kansetsu-Waza) for Juniors under 17, Senior Novices and Master Novices. Exceptions: 

 Jr 3 Cadets and Jr Youth (IJF Juniors.)

 No Chokes (Shime-Waza) for Juniors under 13.

 Sr. Open competitors must be at least 18 years old and Brown or Black Belt.

 Competitors MUST have blue and white belts and should have at least a white gi. A match between 2 competitors wearing blue gis will not be permitted.

 Competitor Callout - White player called first.

 Competitor’s rest period equal to division match time.

LEG GRAB RULE (Match Only)

• Shido for 1st and 2nd leg grabs.

• Hansoku-make for 3rd Leg Grab

 Golden (tied) score contest times adjusted. See Division Charts, pages 5 and 6.

JUDOGI: All divisions

• pre-2014 gi fit requirements applied within reason based upon the size of the player.

• No Hansoku-make given for 1st violation.

• Player will be given opportunity to change gi even if contest has started.
