Wrestling -ONLY **** Due to low registrations Canceled*****
Brazilian Jiujistu "wrestling only" is stand up wrestling for Brazilian Jiujstsu to allow for competitive development for fighters to eventually have all the components of what it would take to take an MMA sanctioned ring fight. We are creating an inclusive environment for athletes to practice wrestling for people that could not get access to wrestling programs which are only in certain schools.
Nothern BC Combat Challenge follows the IBJJF ruleset for BJJ and for Stand up wrestling component uses the ****Freestyle***** "Wrestling Canada Lutte (WCL) United World Wrestling’s (UWW) International Wrestling Rules
The rules can see in the above link with appropriate Canadian modifications that will apply to Northern BC Combat Challenge. The Rulebook, which encompasses the International Wrestling Rules and Canadian modifications, shall apply to all Wrestling-only divisions.
SUMMARY OF RULES : and what is "Wrestling only"
Elementary Rules: There will be the following rules in place for the elementary portion. Safety is of the utmost importance.
- No headlock throws in any elementary division.
- Your opponent’s feet cannot leave the ground when completing takedowns
- Techniques like double leg lifts and firemans carry are prohibited.
- Choking, arm bars and manipulating joints against their intended use are not allowed.
Elementary Division
- No gabory rolls
- Ankle laces once per takedown
- Gutwrench once per takedown
- Wrestlers must wear appropriate athletic attire (shorts and t-shirt allowed; clean, non marking athletic shoes also permitted (no metal), please ensure fingernails are cut short and any piercings are taped or removed).
Gr. 2-3 division: 1 minute running time, 2 rounds; no 10 point superiority, no pins, score is cumulative.
Gr. 4-5 division: 1 minute running time, 2 rounds; no 10 point superiority, score is cumulative, pin to win.
Gr. 6-7 division: 2 minute running time, 2 rounds; 10 point superiority, cumulative score, pin to win.
Highschool Rules
- All takedowns to be in a controlled manner, referees discretion used to ensure safety of wrestlers.
- Choking, arm bars and manipulating joints against their intended use are not allowed.
- No backbending suplex/salto type throws.
- Wrestlers must wear appropriate athletic attire (shorts and t-shirt allowed; clean, non marking athletic shoes also permitted (no metal), please ensure fingernails are cut short and any piercings are taped or removed).
High School wrestlers will be pooled according to weights and skill level.
Grade 8 to 12 division: 3 minutes running time, 2 rounds; 10 point superiority, score is cumulative, pin to win.
Adults: same as grade 8 to 12.
Highschool
- Unlimited gabory rolls
- Ankle laces once per takedown
- Gutwrenches unlimited
Weighing-In
a) Northern BC Combat Wrestling Championships will have two options for weigh-in on the evening before the competition from 6-9pm or at 8 am Sat May 4th compeition day
d) At the medical control, designated medical staff and / or physician will be present to check each athlete presented to them and are obligated to eliminate any wrestler who has any contagious skin disorder or any other ailment that would prevent them from competing at a safe level. The event medical staff and / or physician will be the final medical authority.
e) If an artificial limb(s) is worn during competition, then it must be worn during the weigh-in and approved as safe by the head official. See linked rules for hearing or vision impared athtletes.
Medical Services
We will have two RN nurses and two level 3 first aid attendants on site during the event with a first aid station at every mat.
Double Elimination Bracket Draw Format
a) In the double elimination bracket draw format, a win advances the wrestler to the next round and closer to the final. A first loss relegates the athlete to the repechage (consolation) rounds (for third place), and a second loss eliminates the athlete from the competition. The siz
b) U17 and U15 Rules - In Canada, the suplay, salto, and full nelson from the front and the side, and west point ride are illegal in these age groups and will be stopped immediately. Side throws are allowed.
Interruption Due to Injury
a) If the bout must be interrupted due to injury, the referee may stop the bout for a maximum of 2minutes per wrestler.
b) The entire suspension may be accorded at one time or accumulated at various times throughout the bout.
c) The referee or Chairperson may announce to the injured athlete or coach when each 30 seconds of injury time has elapsed.
d) The referee shall invite both wrestlers to resume the bout at the centre of the mat 10 seconds before the end of the 2-minute injury period.
e) If the injury was accidental and the injured competitor cannot continue after 2 minutes of injury time, the opponent is declared the winner. However, if the injury was deliberately caused by the opponent's actions, the injured competitor will be declared the winner by disqualification of the opponent.
f) The non-injured wrestler should remain standing in the assigned corner and may receive advice from the coach.
g) A wrestler, who is injured accidentally and loses a bout for that reason, may return in the next bout (only with the permission of the physician). This must be announced to the Pairing Master before the pairing of the next round.
h) For treatment of an injury, the wrestler must remain on the mat unless directed by the competition physician/medical personnel. The doctor/ medical personnel may stop the match before the end of the injury/blood time limits. Note Article 6b) & 6c).
i) Athletes that require inhalers/ventilators should be aware that there are a number of inhalers/ventilators that utilize substances on the IOC banned list. It is the responsibility of the athlete to be aware of these substances. Athletes under such medication are strongly encouraged to use inhalers/ventilators before the start of a bout. If necessary, an athlete will be given the opportunity to use an accepted inhaler/ventilator during injury time.
A bout may be won:
- by "fall"
- by injury,
- by 3 cautions given to the opponent during a bout or two leg fouls in Greco-Roman Wrestling
- by technical superiority
- following a forfeit
- by a disqualification
- by points (by having at least 1 point more after addition of the two periods)
In case of tie by points, the winner will be declared by successively considering:
- the highest value of holds;
- the least amount of cautions;
- the last technical point(s) scored
