ADCC Great Northern Challenge
BJJ Events SA and Zero JJ presents the ADCC Great Northern Challenge - a no-gi submission grappling event hosted in Johannesburg on the 15th and 16th of May 2021 sanctioned by the Jiu Jitsu Grappling Association of South Africa (JJGASA).
*Registration note*
When registering on behalf of a competitor younger than 18 years please register the competitor's name, age etc and not your own as this will limit the entry options available to you.
Competition payment
Competition fee is R450 for adults 18+; R450 for under 18 year olds. Late registration fee is R500.
JJGASA members early registration is R350 (with coupon code) and late registration will be R400 (with coupon code).
Payment has to be paid before the last registration date to bank account in order to complete registration.

Weigh in:
Will be held on the 14th of May 2021 from 5pm for competitors competing on the 15th.
For competitors competing on the 16th, weigh will be held on the 15th from 11am to 1pm
Same day weigh in will be held on the day of competition from 8:00- 9:00am
All weighs will take place at the EFC Performance Institute, Unit 5, Cambridge Commercial Park, 22 Witkoppen Rd, Paulshof, Johannesburg.
REFEREES SEMINAR
A referee seminar will be held on the 14th of May at 7pm with Kurdt George at the EFC Performance Institute, Unit 5, Cambridge Commercial Park, 22 Witkoppen Rd, Paulshof, Johannesburg.

Legal Techniques
- Any kind of choke (except for using the hand to close the wind pipe)
- with or without the use of the uniform
- Any armbar, shoulder lock, or wrist lock
- Any Leg Lock or Ankle Lock
Illegal Techniques
- No "Full Nelson" or "Crucifix"
- No striking / kicking of any kind
- No eye gouging or fish hooking
- No grabbing the ears
- No hair pulling, biting
- No finger or toe holds
- No thumbing
- No scratching and pinching
- No touching groin area
- No hands, knees or elbows on face
- No slippery substances allowed on body or clothing

The referee’s decision/judging can’t be overruled!
The winner will be decided according to:
If one competitor gives up or submits by tapping the leg, arm or verbally
If Referee feels one competitor is unable to defend himself or feels his life is in danger,
Referee will declare the winner
If a fighter breaks the rules twice he will be disqualified by the Referee

Equipment
Fighter may use tights, shorts, T-shirt, rash guard or Kimono
Mats
9 x 9 meters, (8x8m, 1m safety area)
Mat escape, same position as the fighter were in when they crossed the mat line or referee say “stop”

Prizes
Every weight classes’ three best fighters will receive medals. Pro divisions receive prizes.
Points: This is a tier 2 competition sanctioned by the JJGASA and points for athlete ranking will be allocated accordingly.
