FORMAT: Professional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation 

FORMAT and PROTOCOL: PBJJF Round Robin tournaments follow Round Robin Pool format meaning that all adult competitors get 4 matches for signing up for a division that fills up to 5 competitors. That means if you compete in both Gi and NoGi, you could get 8 plus fights. This allows you to compete against so many different people, giving you the experience you deserve! All PBJJF matches follow a points structure!

1. GI / UNIFORM


1.1           Only white, royal blue, and black Gis are allowed.
1.2           Gi with two colors will not be allowed. No Gi’s will be accepted with different colored jackets or pants, nor will we allow the use of Gis with different colored collars.
1.3           If necessary, your Gi will be checked, and you will be required to change it.
1.4           It will not be allowed to wear casual shirt under the Gi, only rash guard or sports bras.

NOGI / UNIFORM

2.1  For Adults NoGi  both genders must wear a shirt of elastic material (skin tight) long enough to cover the torso all the way to the waistband of the shorts, colored black, white, or black and white, and with at least 10% of the rank color(belt) to which the athlete belongs. Shirts 100% the color of the athlete’s rank (belt) are also permitted.

2.2 For Kids NoGi both genders must wear a shirt of elastic material (skin tight) long enough to cover the torso all the way to the waistband of the shorts, colored black, white, or black and white. 

Note: For black belts a small red area will be tolerated, but must not decharacterize the athlete’s rank color.

2.3 SHORTS FOR MEN: Board shorts colored black, white, black and white, and/or the color of the rank (belt) to which the athlete belongs, without pockets or with the pockets stitched completely shut, without buttons, exposed drawstrings, zippers or any form of plastic or metal that could present a risk to the opponent, long enough to cover at least halfway down the thigh, and no longer than the knee.

Also permitted are compression shorts made of elastic material (skin tight) worn beneath the shorts, in the colors black, white, black and white, and/or the color of the rank (belt) to which the athlete belongs.

2.4 SHORTS, COMPRESSION SHORTS AND PANTS FOR WOMEN: Shorts, compression pants (skin-tight spats) and/or compression shorts colored black, white, black and white, and/or the color of the rank (belt) to which the athlete belongs. The shorts must not have pockets or have the pockets stitched completely shut, must not have buttons, zippers or any kind of plastic or metal that could present a risk to the opponent, and must be long enough to cover halfway down the thigh and no longer than the knee.

3.     Hygiene

3.1           Athletes’ finger and toenails should be trimmed and short.

3.2           Long hair should be tied up so as not to cause opponents any discomfort.

3.3           Athletes will be disqualified if they are wearing hair dye or makeup that stains their opponent’s Gi or the mat surface during a match.

3.4           Athletes presenting skin lesions, or any other skin condition shall be directed to the tournament medical staff. Under any circumstances, the medical staff has the final say on whether to allow an athlete to compete or not.

3.5           Athletes must keep the Gi clean and on good condition.

4.     Weigh-ins 

4.1           You must check-in and weigh-in anytime up to at least 60 minutes before your scheduled division start time. The athletes be sure to be present in the venue at least 60 minutes prior your division start time as well in case we can get head starts on certain division.

4.3           Athletes who fail to make weight will be disqualified and will not be moved up to another weight division. Athletes who are disqualified will not be eligible for a refund. It is the athlete’s responsibility to make the weight class they signed up for or have changed to a higher weight class by that event’s change deadline.

4.4           If you come from a division that has no athletes, you will have a combined weight, up or down, in that division any athlete will be disqualified. 

4.5           All athletes competing in Gi divisions weigh-in WITH their Gi on.

5.     Further Requirements 

5.1           Use of any foot gear, head gear, hair pins, jewelry, cups (genital protectors) or any other protector fashioned of hard material that may cause harm to an opponent or the athlete him/herself is forbidden. Also forbidden is the use of head wear – be it bandages, hoods or an elastic cap.

5.2           The use of joint protectors (knee, elbow braces, etc.) that increase body volume to the point of making it harder for an opponent to grip the Gi are also forbidden.

6.     Match Scoring 

6.1           PBJJF events matches follow traditional BJJ point scoring: 4 for the mount, 4 for the back, 3 for a guard pass, 2 for a sweep, 2 for a take down, 2 for knee on stomach

6.2           All positions must be held and controlled for 3 seconds.

6.3           An advantage-point is counted when an athlete achieves a point-scoring pass position requiring 3 (three) seconds of control but is unable to maintain control for the entire duration.

6.4           An advantage is characterized by near-completion of a point-scoring position. The referee should assess whether the opponent was in any real danger and if the athlete clearly came close to reaching the point- scoring pass position.

6.5           The athlete shall be awarded an advantage-point when he/she attempts a submission hold where the opponent is in real danger of submitting. Again, it is the referee’s duty to assess how close the submission hold came to fruition.

6.6           A first penalty will result in a warning, a second penalty will result in the opponent being given advantage, a third penalty will result in 2 points, a fourth penalty will result in disqualification.

6.7           If a match finishes in a draw, the referee of the match will declare a winner by Referee Decision at their discretion.

6.8           A match will be deemed over immediately if a competitor taps out, screams, or verbally gives up during the match.

7.     Registration 

7.1           All PBJJF events are pre-registration only. Pre-registration will usually open weeks prior to the event and will close 2 days prior to the event. 

7.2           No refunds will be given at any time for any reason.

7.3           The athlete can claim a credit for a future PBJJF events before the registration deadline.

7.4          After registration closes, no changes will be allowed, and no credit can be requested by the competitor.

• Athletes who place in 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their division will receive a medal at the event. All the medals should be picked up at the event's podium

• There will be one group trophy for first, second and third place teams.

• Before his/her first fight, the athlete will check his/her weight with the Gi. There is only one opportunity to check the weight. If the competitor does not make his/her weight,they will be immediately disqualified. Please make sure that you are in the correct weight division
