關於 Kaizen BJJ Plymouth
In a realistic self defense situation in Michigan, people are wearing a jacket or coat 7 months of the year. And in the summer, they are usually wearing a t shirt. Training with the gi teaches you how to use someones clothing to choke and control them. However, if you had to defend yourself and their shirt was ripped or came off, or you were at the beach, that’s where the no gi training comes in. In a self defense defense situation, you cannot tell an attacker to change what clothes they are wearing, or to not grab your clothes. This is why it is important to train both. If your favorite takedown is a double leg, and they get a good grip somewhere on your upper body, you cannot get your takedown. Of if you are only used to grabbing someone’s collar, and they didn’t have a shirt, you could be in trouble. For takedown arts that we teach, this is why we incorporate both Wrestling and Judo. Judo uses the gi to throw someone, and Wrestling does not use the clothing. 2. We offer over 25 adult classes per week! Early morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend! We have lots of classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but students can also train in Boxing, Muay Thai, Judo, and we even have a self defense class! 3. Many schools will tell you that they teach takedowns, but they don’t! The only thing they know is something you see commonly in tournaments- they pull guard. Pulling guard is where you grab onto someone, fall on your back, and pull them on top of you. This is terrible for self defense! 3. We teach leg locks- submissions that attack the ankle or the knee. Leg locks are a powerful tool versus a larger and stronger attacker. As with all submissions, we are very careful when we use them. Many schools will tell you that they use leg locks, but they generally only allow higher ranks to use them. 4. Many schools only do tournament Jiu-Jitsu, which is very different from Jiu-Jitsu that would be used in a self defense situation. It is sad that many Jiu-Jitsu students have never had a punch thrown at them in practice, even at a slow speed. They could be in for a big surprise if they ever have to defend themselves or loved ones in a real situation. 5. We teach breathing techniques and meditation. The first minute of many of our classes we spend practicing techniques to relax and control your breathing. In a realistic self defense situation, you can be overwhelmed by adrenal stress. Deep breathing is one of the best ways to prevent the fight, flight, or freeze response from taking over. Outside of self defense, deep breathing is a great way to reduce anger, fear, and anxiety. 6. We train with the “Leave your ego at the door” attitude. We feel that it is very important to train safe and in an environment that you feel comfortable. There are some schools that have a military style environment, and we don’t feel that facilitates learning or stress release.
