March 2019 True North Grappling Championship

It is our pleasure to introduce, True North Grappling Championship. This tournament is open to competitors of all belt and skill levels, ages 5 and up.

It is our mission to provide athletes with a platform to compete at an international level versus the best grapplers in Canada and from abroad, while offering developing competitors an opportunity to showcase their skill at a grass-roots level.

REGISTRATION FEES:

Early Bird by January 15, 2019 ($79)

January 16 - March 1, 2019 ($99)

March 2 - March 9, 2019 ($119)

WEIGH-IN INFORMATION:

Weigh-ins take place at the ‘bull pen’ one hour prior to the start of your division. Not making weight or failing to show up for scheduled weigh-in time will result in a disqualification with no refund. Please be assured that we make every effort to match competitors fairly, according to age, weight and rank. Should the event reach capacity, we reserve the right to close online registration early.

Each Academy may designate up to two coaches to receive spectator passes at no cost. The Academy must have competitors registered for this event and the passes must be approved by the Event Coordinator.

BRACKETING INFORMATION:

Kids are guaranteed two matches. Teen/Juvenile/Adult/Masters are modified single elimination bracket. Competitors are not guaranteed more than one match per division regardless of the outcome.

PLEASE NOTE: Competitors are required to wear an IBJJF approved uniform (gi) or (nogi) uniform.

MATCH DURATION:

Age 5-6 (2 minutes)

Age 7-15 (3 minutes)

Age 16+ (5 minutes)

Kids Ages 5/6 POINTS ONLY (competitor starts in Closed Guard)

OPEN CLASS:

Male Adult/Master Athletes who place 1st, 2nd or 3rd are eligible to register for the Open Class bracket per belt level. Women Adult/Master medalists will be eligible to compete in Open Class brackets of either White/Blue belt or Purple/Brown/Black belt.

How to register?

The athletes who are willing to register for the Open Class may do so at the event’s Open Class registration table. Athletes must register in Open Class within 15 minutes after receiving their medal.

A minimum of 4 competitors is required to run an Open Class bracket.

COMPETITOR T-SHIRTS:

Competitors who register will qualify for a free promotional t-shirt (While supplies last).

The registered competitor must pick up their t-shirt at the retail booth after 9:30 AM on the day of the event.

This is a promotional item and has no monetary value.

Exact size and design of the promotional t-shirt is not guaranteed.

This offer expires once the event is concluded. Unclaimed t-shirts will not be mailed or otherwise distributed.

OTHER:

• True North Grappling Ltd. understands the importance of an athlete to have a match when registering for our tournaments, and because of that, we decided to allow a few changes on the juvenile's registration when necessary. • Athletes may move up one weight or age division in order to have an opponent when he or she is alone in their weight division. • True North Grappling Ltd. does not guarantee that the division in which you are registered will have competitors on the day of the event. • If you have at least one other athlete in your division, you will not be able to move to another division. • Refer to the brackets & schedule link in order to know when you should be at the event and inside the warm up area.
