Requirements

Gi & Uniform

1.1) Gis must be the appropriate fit for the competitor, and must not contain too many patches to the point where their opponent is prevented from getting grips on the gi. The gi must not be torn, wet, dirty, or unsanitary.

1.2) All Gi and NoGi divisions competitors must wear a rashguard or shirt of elastic fabric that clings to the body. Competitors may be asked to change if they are wearing a shirt that is loose, and may not compete shirtless.

1.3) NoGi Mens divisions competitors must wear board shorts that either have no pockets or have pockets that are stitched shut, and no attached metal or plastic to avoid injuring your opponent. Board shorts must be at a length between half way down the thigh and the knee. Spats may be worn under shorts.

1.4) NoGi Womens divisions competitors must wear either board shorts as described for NoGi Mens, and/or lycra elastic pants with no pockets, or pockets must be stitched shut.

Hygiene

2.1) All athletes’ nails should be trimmed and short.

2.2) Long hair should be tied up so as not to cause opponents any discomfort.

2.3) Athletes will be disqualified if they are wearing hair dye that stains their opponent’s Gi or the mat surface during a match.

2.4) Athletes presenting skin lesions or any other skin condition shall be directed to the tournament medical staff. Under any circumstances, the medical staff has the final say on whether to allow an athlete to compete or not. Athletes shall not compete if they know they have skin lesions that are contagious or harmful to competitors.

Weigh-Ins

3.1) Competitors must check-in, weigh-in, and be present in the venue at least 1 hour before your division start time.

3.2) If an athlete does not make weight (1lb allowance max) on their first attempt, they have until 15 minutes before their division start to make weight. 

3.3) Athletes who fail to make weight up to 15 minutes before their division start will be disqualified and will not be moved up to another weight division. Athletes who are disqualified will not be eligible for a refund. It is the athlete’s responsibility to make the weight class they signed up for, or have changed to a higher weight class by the event’s change deadline.

3.4) All competitors competing in any division weigh-in WITHOUT their Gi on.

3.5) An athlete who competes in multiple divisions only has to weigh-in once.

Further Requirements

4.1) Use of any foot gear, head gear, hair pins, jewelry, cups (genital protectors) or any other protector fashioned of hard material that may cause harm to an opponent or the athlete him/herself is forbidden. The use of head wear is also forbidden – be it bandages, hoods or an elastic cap (exceptions for religious garments that do not put the wearer or opponent at risk of injury due to the garment).

4.2) The use of joint protectors (knee, elbow braces, etc.) that increase body volume to the point of making it harder for an opponent to grip the Gi are forbidden.

Format

MATCH DURATION

5.1) The time limit for all adult divisions will be 4 minutes.

5.2) Kids divisions will be 3 minutes.

Match Scoring

6.1) Sunshine and Submissions matches follow traditional IBJJF point scoring: 4 for the mount, 4 for the back, 3 for a guard pass, 2 for a sweep, 2 for a take down, 2 for knee on belly.

6.2) All positions must be held and controlled for 3 seconds.

6.3) There is no “Advantage” scoring.

6.4) A first penalty will result in a warning, a second penalty will result in the opponent being given 2 points, a third penalty will result in disqualification.

6.5) If a match finishes in a draw, the referee of the match will declare a winner by Referee Decision at their discretion.

6.6) A match will be deemed over immediately if a competitor taps out, screams, or verbally gives up during the match.

Prizes

7.1) The three top-placed athletes in each division shall receive medals. The champion shall receive a gold medal and the runner-up shall receive a silver medal. A third place fight will determine the bronze medal winner.

7.2) The prizes shall be awarded according to the results proclaimed by the referees. Exchanging placement at the moment prizes are awarded is expressly forbidden.

Registration

8.1) This event is PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY.  

8.2) In order to register, you must fill the form in our Registration section. After submitting your form, you must follow the Stripe link that will be available in order to complete your payment.

8.3) Completing the form will not get you registered for the event if you do not complete the payment with Stripe. There will be no payment accepted the day of the event.

SINGLE ELIMINATION

9.1) Single-elimination format will be used.

9.2) Divisions with two competitors will be best two out of three.

9.3) If a competitor has to forfeit some of their matches, due to injury, their opponent will be declared the winner. Although we understand perfectly that competitors might have to forfeit matches, we expect competitors to complete all of their matches as respect to their opponents.

9.4) If at the end of a match both athletes have the same number of points, it is the duty of the referee or referees to declare a winner. To determine the winner, the referee should take note of which athlete displayed greater offense during the match and came closest to achieving possible point- or submission-scoring positions
