How Our Events Run
Ireland BJJ Events strictly follow IBJJF rules. You should be familiar with these rules and procedures before the event takes place
Once you have entered the event, you must check your registration to make sure you are in the correct weight, age, and experience division. You can edit this at any stage before the registration closes or on the edit day.
If you have difficulties doing this, you can email [email protected] BEFORE THE CLOSING DATE. No requests will be taken through social media messaging or any other address.
If you are alone in your division, you have 3 options:
1) Attend on the day and weigh in. You will receive a Gold Medal and be eligible for the Absolute division (adults)
2) Change your age or weight to another division to be placed in that bracket before the closing date
3) Request a refund before 5pm GMT AFTER THE CLOSING DATE on or before the REGISTRATION CHECK DAY
Brackets and a full schedule will be released on WEDNESDAY before the event
ON THE EVENT DAY
Attend at least 45 minutes before your first match. Remember that our schedule is REAL TIME. This means that if the event runs faster or slower, your match times may change slightly. In the interests of efficiency, we may also change your mat number. It is important to check your phone or the screens in the venue regularly.
YOU WILL WEIGH IN JUST BEFORE YOUR DIVISION STARTS. No early weigh ins are allowed. You may stand on the competition scales only once. A check scales will be provided in the arena, but this is for reference only and only your single official weigh in is counted.
DO NOT ATTEND OR QUEUE UNLESS YOUR DIVISION IS SOON. This will lead to a cluttered bullpen and delay the event.
Your uniform (GI and NOGI) must adhere to the rules of the IBJJF which are on www.ibjjf.org
All competitors must present a valid photo ID with their date of birth at weigh in. Examples are Passport, Driver's License, Garda ID, IBJJF ID.
YOUR MATCH
Follow the instructions of the event coordinators to find your mat at the correct time. This is a single elimination event. If you lose your match you are eliminated. Exceptions are in the case of a 3 person division where a losing semi-finalist drops to the next semi final.
If you win your match, be aware that you must be ready to compete in your next match when called.
CODE OF BEHAVIOUR
All participants, coaches, and spectators are expected to behave in a manner befitting a martial arts event. This is a family event and excessive aggression, foul or abusive language, or other behaviours deemed offensive to others will not be tolerated.
SILENCE FOR KIDS MATCHES
Children deserve a good atmosphere for their matches. Therefore we ask that spectators limit themselves to applause and cheers at the end of the match. Excessive shouting makes for an intimidating atmosphere for young children, and drives them away from our sport. ONE COACH, ONE VOICE during matches. This will help your child to perform well and enjoy themselves more than anything.
RESPECT OUR OFFICIALS AND REFEREES!
