Format

Round Robin

· Competitors from every division will be pooled with opponents within their own division for an opportunity of getting up to 4 matches.

· Following the round robin format in divisions with over 5 competitors, the best grapplers from the pools will compete in a single-elimination Playoff format to crown a winner. Depending on the number of competitors in each division and depending on the results, we might hold quarterfinals, semifinal, only finals, or in the case where Playoffs are not needed afterwards, we will declare the top 3 competitors.

· If a competitor must forfeit some of his/her matches, due to injury, his/her opponent will be declared the winner. We expect competitors to complete all their matches as a respect to their opponents.

· Teammates might end up being matched against one another. We put extra effort on such a situation not happening but depending on the number of competitors or teammates in a division, there may be no way to prevent it.

· Matches won earn you individual points toward your round robin division: 12 points for a match won by Submission, 9 points for a match won by Points, and 6 points for a match won by Referee Decision or Disqualification. Total points will be added up to declare the placement if in a division of 5 or less competitors.

· In the case of tiebreakers, the following algorithm will be utilized in order: Head to Head, Most Wins By Sub, Most Wins By Points, Most Wins By Decision

Absolute Division

· PRIZE MONEY: Will be given to winners of the Men's Absolute Gi, Men's Absolute No-Gi and Women's Absolute No-Gi. Prize money. Prize money will be $200 to each winner.

· Absolute Divisions are single-elimination format for all tournaments produced by Ocean City Classics.

· No-Gi Absolute divisions use Advanced rules during their matches.

Takedown tournament

· PRIZE MONEY: Winner of Takedown tournament will receive $100

· Takedown tournament will be a round robin style format.

· Takedown criteria will be forcing opponent to turtle position, putting them in side-control/mount or putting them in a bottom guard.

· Each take down is worth 2 points. The first opponent to score 4 points wins the match.

· There will be a 4 minute time limit on the take down rounds. If match ends in a tie the referee will decide the winner.

Rankings and Team Points

DIVISION MERGERS

After the change deadline, competitors who do not have anyone in their division group may be merged with another division. All athletes who remain solo in their divisions once brackets are released means there wasn't any default merges available to them, and therefore there are no matches available for that competitor. They will receive a full coupon credit for entry to any future event of ours.

WEIGH-INS

· You must check-in and weigh-in anytime up to at least 60 minutes before your scheduled division start time. We ask that you make sure to be present in the venue at least 60 minutes prior your division start time.

· There will be a 1-pound allowance.

· If an athlete does not make weight on his/her first attempt, he/she has until the end of the designated period to make weight. Abusive usage of our scales (every five minutes) will not be permitted.

· Athletes who fail to make weight during the designated period will be disqualified and will not be moved up to another weight division. Athletes who are disqualified will not be eligible for a refund. It is the athlete’s responsibility to make the weight class they signed up for or have changed to a higher weight class by that event’s change deadline.

· All competitors competing in Gi divisions weigh-in may weigh in WITHOUT their Gi on.

· An athlete who competes in both their Gi and No-Gi divisions only has to weigh-in once.

Prizes

· The three top-placed athletes in each division shall receive medals. The champion shall receive a gold medal and the runner-up shall receive a silver medal. A third-place fight will determine the bronze medal winner.

· Grand Prizes will be awarded at specific events throughout the year. Not all divisions in an event of ours are eligible to win a grand prize and athletes should visit the event’s page to know if their division is eligible or not for one, and the details to that prize becoming available for select divisions.
