Grappling Divisions Gi and No-Gi
SUBMISSION GRAPPLING RULES:
This tournament is based on Submission only format where as a successful submission is the clear winner. If the match goes to a referees decisions then submission attempts will be tallied for amount of attacks, the depth of each attacks, the hierarchy of attacks determining the winner should a clear submission not create a tap from opponents.
The referees will break up fights if a competitor is in a submission hold and does not try to escape effectively right away, but it is up to the competitor to tap or optionally continue to compete.
All matches start from standing. Fighters who move outside the border when standing can (at the discretion of the referee) be restarted in the center of the mat. If fighters move outside the area while on the ground (both fighters have at least one knee down) the action will be stopped and they are moved back to the centre of the mat in the last position they were in before going out of bounds. Deliberately or repeatedly moving outside the border will be considered as stalling and penalized accordingly.
Ways to win:
1.) By submission (physical and verbal) or by referee stoppage due to submission 2.) Injury or rule infringement)
3.) If you have to leave the mat / not being on the mat
We will be using IBJJF weight classes for Juvenile and adult divisions
Kids:
In an effort to create more matches for kids we will be doing custom weight classes which you can view when you go to sign up. Most divisions are 10 lbs apart except for the young kids (ages 4 & 5) and up to 15 lbs for the older larger children.
**PARENTS PLEASE NOTE - kids will receive a 2 pound allowance. This means that if they are overweight by a maximum of 2 pounds, they will be permitted to compete. If they exceed the allowance (2.1+ lbs) they will be disqualified and not compete. It is the responsibility of the competitor and/or parent to update your weight class BEFORE the final day for changes has passed (May 18 2023)**
**ADULT/MASTERS PLEASE NOTE: you will have a 1 lb allowance. Meaning you can be a maximum of 1lb overweight for your division and still compete. If you exceed the allowance by 0.1 lbs or more, you will be disqualified and not compete**
Weigh-ins are held the same day of the event. Weigh ins are done with the full nogi attire on. Kids can weigh in as soon as they arrive however we will be giving priority to the youngest lowest ranked children as they will be competing first. All weigh ins start at 8 am.
