Saskatchewan Beach Wrestling Championship
Welcome to the 1st Annual Saskatchewan Beach Wrestling Championship!
This tournament is meant to be a fun way to enjoy some sun, great company and of course, wrestling.
Beach Wrestling is a fast growing sport with a high probability of becoming an Olympic Sport. The rule set is easy to understand and the matches are fast and action packed. It's also a rule set that competitors from grappling sports other than wrestling can easily use their skills to help them compete.

What To Bring:
- Water
- Government issued ID
- Uniform
- Towel
- Hat
- Snacks. There will be no concession onsite. There will be a designated eating area.
Uniform:
Men
- Wrestlers shall wear board shorts (no pockets, zippers, or buckles) or Bike shorts/Compression shorts
- Short must stop above the athlete's knees
Women
- Wrestlers shall wear board shorts (no pockets, zippers, or buckles) or Bike shorts/Compression shorts
- Short must stop above the athlete's knees
- Women must wear a sports bra or a form-fitting rashguard
***No shoes are allowed in any of the beach wrestling styles and the bout must be bare foot.***
Match Length:
The match consists in 1 period of 3 minutes for all age categories. You will have 1 minute to show up for your match. Otherwise, you forfeit the match.
Use Smoothcomp to keep track of your mat number and match times. Match times are DYNAMIC and will constantly change in each mat as the matches progresses.
Scoring:
1 point is the awarded to:
- the wrestler who manages to bring any of his opponent’s body part to the ground, except the hands.
- the wrestler who manages to bring any of his opponent’s body part out of the competition area.
- the wrestler whose opponent has received a caution for illegal action.
Note: the attacker can put a knee (or any other body part) to the ground when executing an action if this action finished by the opponent in the ground.
3 points are awarded to:
- the wrestler who manages to expose his opponent’s back to the ground during a takedown.
How To Win:
The first athlete to 3 points wins the match. If there is a tie at the end of the match, the following criteria will be used to declare the winner:
- The highest value of holds
- Last point scored
- Weight of the athletes*
- The lowest number pulled during the draw
*The two opponents will be weighed and the lighter (lightweight) one will be declared as the winner of the match.*
Insurance:
ALL ATHLETES MUST HAVE A CURRENT, SASK WRESTLING MEMBERSHIP IN ORDER TO COMPETE. THIS IS A SEPARATE FEE FROM THE REGISTRATION FEE. IF FROM OUT OF PROVINCE, YOU MUST PURCHASE SASK WRESTLING ONE DAY MEMBERSHIP (WRESTLE FOR FUN) BY TO JULY 24TH AT 12:00PM.

No refunds will be issued to athletes that show up on tournament day without a Sask Wrestling membership.

Age groups and weight classes:
17U Male (Born 2007-2009): 50kg, 60kg, 70kg, 80kg, 80kg+
17U Female (Born 2007-2009): 50kg, 60kg, 70kg, 70kg+
Beginner Men (Born 2006 or Before): 65kg, 75kg, 85kg, 95kg, 105kg, 105kg+
Beginner Women (Born 2006 or Before): 55kg, 65kg, 75kg, 75kg+
Senior Men (Born 2006 or Before): 65kg, 75kg, 85kg, 95kg, 105kg, 105kg+
Senior Women (Born 2006 or Before): 55kg, 65kg, 75kg, 75kg+
**If you have competed in any wrestling tournament in the past, you CANNOT register under the Beginner Men and Women age groups.
Weigh Ins:
Weigh Ins will be held in the morning at 11 am-11:45am.
All athletes must weigh in in order to compete. Make sure you weigh in for the weight class you registered under.
Please bring and show your government issued ID (shows your Date of Birth) at the weigh ins.
Rules Meeting:
Starts at 12:00pm for all competitors
