Northern Grappling Championships

NORTHERN GRAPPLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

May 25th, 2024 - Algoma University George Leach Center, Sault Ste. Marie, ON.

We can't wait to see all of the competitors from Northern Ontario and beyond at Sault Ste. Marie's first Grappling and Jiu Jitsu tournament.

DIVISIONS:

Youth, teen, adult, women and masters divisions.   Youth and teen will compete gi only, adults and masters will compete in both gi and no gi.  Teens may compete in the adult divisions with parental permission.

Some divisions may be joined to create more competitive brackets and provide everyone with as many matches as possible.

There will be one male and one female absolute division.  The absolute divisions are open to anyone of any belt or weight class.

RULES:

IBJJF rules will be used, with no advantages.  In the event of a tie, the match will restart on the feet, with the first person to score declared the winner.

REGISTRATION:

Early Bird Registration will be active until March. 31st.  We are keeping fees much lower than normal to help promote participation and grow grappling in Northern Ontarion.

ONTARIO GRAPPLING ASSOCIATION (OGA) 

 https://oga.smoothcomp.com/en/federation/157/membership All competitors must have valid registration with the Ontario Grappling Association (OGA) in order to compete. The OGA will be present at the tournament. The registration fee is $30.00 and is valid for one year, this entitles you to participate in any OGA tournament.

Competitors, please ensure you have registered with and PAID the OGA registration fee before the tournament, as it could create a significant delay. If you have any questions about OGA registration contact: [email protected]  

WEIGH INS:

Athletes will weigh in an hour prior to their division start date. They will weigh in WITHOUT the gi.  Athletes competing in two divisions are only required to weigh in once.

There will be an early weigh in, Friday, May 24th from 7:00 - 8:30 at Steel City MMA for anyone who wishes to weigh in ahead of time.

ACCOMODATIONS:

We have secured a group rate of $105/night at the Sleep Inn, a well reviewed hotel close to the venue, and downtown amenities.  To book, simply call (705) 253-7533 and ask for the "Northern Grappling Championships" group rate.  You can book for one night or two on May 24th and 25th.
