Scottish Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open 2020
Scottish Grappling proudly presents the Scottish BJJ Open which will take place on the 8th February 2020.
The event will take place at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, Motherwell Scotland.
The event is limited to 300 competitors maximum.

COMPETITION FORMAT
All divisions will be run on a single elimination basis.
AGE CATEGORIES
The following age categories will be used: -
Juvenile: 16 & 17 Years old at the time of the event
Adult: 18 and older at the time of the event
Masters: 30 and older at the time of the event
Seniors: 40 and older at the time of the event
Competitors must provide photo ID to prove identity and their date of birth during weigh-in. Anyone who fails to do so or who has entered a category which they are not eligible for will be automatically DQ'd with no prospect of refund.
WEIGHT CATEGORIES
All gi & no gi weight categories as per IBJJF rules
BELT CATEGORIES (GI)
The following belt categories will be used for gi
Gi
White Belt
Blue Belt
Purple Belt
Brown/ Black Belt
For gi competitors must fight in the belt awarded to them by their instructor (mixed brown/black belt excluded) with the following exception:
Judo Black Belts, Pro MMA fighters and National Level wrestlers must compete in the blue belt division wearing a white belt.
Anyone who does not qualify for this exception and is found to be fighting in a higher belt category in the gi will be disqualified.
EXPERIENCE CATEGORIES (NO GI)
The following experience categories will be used for no gi: -
White Belt / Beginner (less than 18 months grappling experience, no blue belts,judo black belts, pro MMA fighters or national level wrestlers)
Blue / Intermediate (less than 36 months grappling experience, no purple belts or higher)
Purple / Advanced (less than 60 months grappling experience, no brown / black belts)
Brown / Black / Elite (more than 60 months grappling experience)
For no gi competitors must as a minimum compete at their belt/ experience level but may compete up an experience category to challenge themselves if they so choose.
ABSOLUTE DIVISIONS
Split absolutes available at all categories (Male gi u76kg/76kg+, Male No Gi u73.5kg, 73.5kg+. female gi u64kg/64kg+, female no gi u61kg, 61kg+) . The winner of each absolute category will take the prize pot of all absolute division entries. Absolute divisions are pre registration only.
RULES
All divisions are contested under IBJJF rules.
REGISTRATION DETAILS
Closing date for all entries will be midnight on Friday the 31st of January, no entries will be accepted after this point and initial brackets will be available by no later than Monday February the 3rd.
You are not registered until your entry has been paid either via Stripe or Paypal.
Competitors can use the Smoothcomp system to make a change in weight division up until midnight on Wednesday the 5th of February, no changes in division will be considered after this date and any competitor who fails to make weight on the day will be disqualified without any possibility of refund. All payments must be made via Smoothcomp ahead of the event. Upon the close of registrations organizers will if necessary move you to the nearest category in order to give you matches.
WEIGH IN PROCEDURES
All competitors must make weight on our scales. There are no allowances given. Weigh-ins will take place immediately prior to your first match in the division. All competitors must have a valid form of photo ID to prove eligibility for entry for the competition which will be checked at time of weigh-in. Anyone who has entered a division which they are not eligible for will be instantly DQ'd without any possibility of refund.
REFUND POLICY
Please note, refunds will be available in the form of future credit only in the event of illness/injury and then only on the production of a note from a medical professional prior to the close of entries on the 31st of January. No refunds are available after the close of entries or in the event of a no show on the day.
TRANSPORT
Ravenscraig is less than 30 minutes drive from Glasgow Airport and 40 minutes from Edinburgh. It can be easily reached by public transport via Motherwell train station which is on the main west coast rail line between Scotland and England as well as local services from Glasgow and Edinburgh via Glasgow Central Station and Edinburgh Waverly respectively.
By road, the centre is less than 2 miles from the main North/South artery that is the M74 and about 10 minutes from the M8. There is a substantial amount of free parking in the area.
