2nd Annual West of Scotland BJJ Open

Scottish Grappling proudly presents the 2nd West of Scotland BJJ Open which will take place at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, Motherwell on 19th February

The event will be contested under standard IBJJF rules and will be a UKBJJA ranked event for the No Gi divisions.

We will once again be running both Gi and No-Gi divisions!

We will also have gi and no gi divisions for juniors at this event.

Early entry price is £35 for one division and £45 for both gi and no-gi. For juniors and juveniles it's £10 and £15 for both. These prices run until 14th of January at midnight.

Late Entry price is £45 for one division and £55 for both gi and no gi. For juniors and juveniles it's £15 and £25. These prices run until the close of entries at midnight on the 11th of February.

The gi competition is open to all belt divisions.

No gi divisions are by BJJ rank or time served. If you train at a Gi school then follow the BJJ Belt (taking into account the other restrictions mentioned), otherwise it's time served.

The divisions are: -

Beginner - (White belt or less than 18 months experience, IBJJF white belt rules, 5 minute matches)

Intermediate - (Blue belts or between more than 18 months and less than 36 months experience, IBJJF blue belt rules, 6 minute matches)

Advanced (Purple belts plus those who have grappled for more than 36 months but less than 60 months uses IBJJF , 7 minute matches)

Elite (Brown and black belts plus those who have more than 60 months grappling experience. 8 minute matches)

There will be Masters divisions for all competitors aged between 30 and 39 inclusive and a Seniors division for competitors who are aged 40 or over. All masters and seniors matches are 5 minutes long.

Weigh-ins for those doing both gi and no-gi divisions will take place in the morning approximately 30 minutes prior to your gi division. We intend to start the first gi divisions at 9am. If you are doing both gi and no-gi you only need to make weight once providing you select matching divisions. If you select two different categories you will need to weigh in twice.

Weigh-ins for those only doing the no-gi divisions will take place between 1pm and 2pm with the first no-gi divisions starting at 2pm.

Competitors will be divided by the weight categories shown below.

-50 kg, -55 kg, -60 kg, -65 kg, -70 kg, -75 kg, -80 kg, +80kg.

No Gi: -

-19 kg, -22 kg, -25kg, -28 kg, -31 kg, -34 kg, -37 kg, -40kg,

-44kg, -48 kg, -52 kg, -56 kg, -60 kg, -64kg, -68kg, -72kg, 72kg+

Where there are insufficient numbers to run a category, at the discretion of the organiser, competitors may be offered the opportunity to fight up one weight category.

Where possible the following age brackets will be used.

4-6 years, 7-9 years, 10-12 years, 13-15 years, 16-17 years.

Where there are insufficient numbers to run a category using the age brackets shown, at the discretion of the organiser competitors may be offered the opportunity to fight up (not down) an age group.

Where there are insufficient numbers to run a category, at the discretion of the organiser, competitors may be offered the opportunity to fight up one weight category.

Please note that divisions of less than 4 people will not run and will either be combined with the next highest weight category or moved down in age group automatically in the event of seniors entries.

Also Judo black belts, professional MMA fighters and those who have wrestled at a national level are ineligible to compete at white belt and must enter at blue belt minimum for gi and Intermediate for no gi regardless of BJJ grade.

All divisions will be run on a single elimination basis. Competitors who medal in their weight division will be eligible to enter the openweight division for the belt and experience level.

We are also offering a team trophy for the team which tops the team points standings.

Closing date for all entries will be midnight on Sunday the 12th of February, no entries will be accepted after this point and initial brackets will be available by no later than Monday February the 13th.

Competitors can use the Smoothcomp system to make a change in weight division up until midnight on Wednesday the 15th of February, no changes in division will be considered after this date and any competitor who fails to make weight on the day will be disqualified without any possibility of refund. All payments must be made via Smoothcomp ahead of the event. We will not be accepting any cash on the day.

All competitors must make weight on our scales. There are no allowances given.

Please note, refunds will only be given in the event there is no one in a competitors division and they are unable to compete in a higher category. There are no refunds in the event of injury prior to the event.

Respect Rule

This event has a zero tolerance policy regarding inappropriate behavior by coaches, parents/guardians, spectators and competitors.

All in attendance must show some restraint when their students or team mates are fighting. There will be competitors and spectators of all ages at this event and we are here to set an example.

Any swearing, inappropriate gestures, violence (towards person or property) or berating the officials (regardless of any decisions they make) will not be tolerated.

If this happens, the referee/organiser has the right to disqualify that competitor, or to ask the person concerned to leave the area. If those concerned do not comply with the referee/organisers request the competitor will be disqualified from the event.

If a coach, parent or team mate encroaches onto the mat, or past any barriers that are in place, or man handles an official in any way, that person will be asked to leave the venue and the whole team may not be permitted to take any further part in the competition
