WHO WILL BE THE NEXT NEWAZA CUP CHAMPION?

Format: 

Newaza Cup will have two categories, separated by two weight divisions. We will have a beginners category, consisting of only white belts, and will be divided into two brackets of under 76kg and over 76kg. First place of each bracket will win a free subscription to the next event and rash guard.

We will also have an advanced category, consisting of blue belts to black belts, and will be divided into two brackets of under 76kg and over 76kg, as well.  First place wins $1,200 and second place wins a rash guard.*

*In the case of a bracket consisting of under 10 people, percentage breakdown of the prize money will apply.

Rules and Guidelines:

Newaza Cup follows a submission only ruleset, depending on the category different rules apply.

The beginner category follows submission only, but with the IBJJF white belt rule guidelines. Each match will have a duration of 6 minutes, with 2 minutes of over time if no submission is made. If in the case of no submission in overtime, it will then go to referees decision.

The advanced category will be submission only as well, and all IBJJF black belt guidelines and regulations apply.  Each match will have a duration of 6 minutes, with 2 minutes of over time if no submission is made. The finals will have a duration of 8 minutes, with 2 minutes of over time. If in the case of no submission on overtime, it will then go to referees decision as well.

CHANGING DIVISIONS:

After your initial registration, you can make changes by logging into your account and modifying your registration details. After the change deadline, the registration will become locked in, and there will no further changes allowed. If on the day of the event you are over weight, beginner athletes will be moved up a weight division. NO weight tolerations will be made for the advanced category. If you miss weight, you are disqualified.

REFUND POLICY:

We issue refunds for the registration in the case of event cancellation or other circumstances announced by the organizer. If the athlete is injured before the event and can show proof with an official medical note, they will be issued a full credit to the upcoming event.

BRACKETS AND SCHEDULING:

48 hours prior to the tournament, the event brackets and schedule will be released. You will be able to locate both on the event page brackets and schedule tab. We will call for you to come to the mat before each match.  Please be on time for your matches! No show equals disqualification. We ask that you make sure to be present in the warm up area at least 30 minutes prior your division start time as well as in case we are able to get a head starts on certain divisions.

WEIGH INS:

Weigh ins take place on the day of the event.  You must weigh-in anytime from the event opening until 30 minutes before your scheduled division start time. You must have officially weighed in by this time before your division time and have made the weight, or else you will be disqualified and removed from the bracket.

Athletes from the beginner category will be moved up a division if they miss weight, and advanced athletes will be disqualified.

COACHING:

All athletes will be allowed one coach, that matches their smooth comp profile.

MEDIC ON SITE: 

There will be a trained and professional medic on site. These medics we can trust with the safety of our competitors whether they need ice or need advice on injuries made at event.  

*Newaza and event center are not at all liable for any and all  injuries during the event. Athletes assume all of the risk when registering for the event and will therefore be reliable.

SPECTATORS

All spectators will be subject to a $10 fee upon entrance. Black Belts will be waved of this fee, along with the 1 coach that is allocated per registered athlete.
