TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW

Please review Registration and Divisions carefully.  We have heard your feedback and are employing a different format for divisions at this tournament.

The event is open to members in good standing of USJF, USJA and USA Judo.

It is Nanka’s goal to provide a competitive event that is a fair, safe and fun environment for our judo community. This document outlines the rules and guidelines of this event.

This tournament is a Nanka Development Event.

Nanka Development Tournaments:  Provide an introduction to judo tournaments with the goal of giving competitors the opportunity to gain an understanding of tournament rules and protocols in a competitive situation.

In all cases the Tournament Director has the final decision on any issues concerning this tournament.

Participation

Registration for this tournament has been closed due to reaching our capacity limits.  

Judoka members in good standing of the three Judo Organizations (USJF, USJA and USA Judo) are welcome to participate in this tournament without restriction. All participants will have Medical and Accident Insurance using an insurance policy purchased by Nanka especially for this event. It is Nanka's intention to support and provide judo opportunities no matter your organization. Nanka was formed 90 years ago with this intent.

The following dates are the timeline for this tournament:

·         Early Bird Fee Registration Opens:                August 17, 2023  

·         Normal Fee Registration:                                August 26, 2023

·         Late Fee Registration:                                    September 15, 2023, Midnight

·         Registration Closes:                                       Midnight Wednesday September 20, 2023

·         Preliminary Brackets Published:                   Morning Friday September 22, 2023

·         Updated Brackets Published:                       3 pm Saturday September 23, 2023

·         Final Brackets published:                              6 pm Saturday September 23, 2023

ALL REGISTRATIONS ARE TO BE SUBMITTED BY THE ABOVE INDICATED DATE. APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AFTER THE REGISTRATION CLOSE DATE (September 20 at Midnight) WILL BE DENIED.

All athletes must provide proof of valid and current membership of the USJF, USA Judo or USJA to compete in this event. Please upload an image of your USJF, USA Judo or USJA membership card when prompted during the online registration process. Registrations without proof of membership will be denied.

For the purposes of this tournament the AGE of the competitor is with respect to the day of the event.

There is a maximum capacity for this tournament of 500 competitors.

Shiai Fees

·   Early Bird Fee (before August 26)     $50.00 1st Division,          $35.00  second division

·   Normal Registration:                          $60.00 1st Division,           $40.00  second division

·   Late Registration (After September 15)   $70.00 1st Division,    $50.00  second division

Kata Fees

Kata fee (per person)

·         Early Bird Fee (before August 26)   $25.00 1st Kata,    $17.50 for each additional Kata

·         Normal Registration:                        $30.00 1st Kata,     $20.00 for each additional Kata

·         Late Registration (After September 15)     $35.00 1st Kata

Shiai Divisions

Nanka endeavors to ensure that all athletes participate in our tournaments do so in a fair and safe manner. 

In response to feedback on previous tournaments,  Divisions and Bracketing will be conducted differently at this tournament.  Please read the registration information closely

In this Tournament:

· Competitors will declare  Age Division and Weight (kg)  when registering, determined by the day of the event.

DURING THE BRACKETING PROCESS, RANK AND WEIGHT GROUPINGS WILL BE DETERMINED.

THE YOUTH NOVICE BRACKETS WILL CONSIST OF WHITE/ YELLOW BELTS AND WILL BE DEVELOPED DURING THE BRACKETING PROCESS. 

· The Competitor’s weight will be checked for accuracy mat side, before competing.

· After registration closes on Wednesday September 20, 2023 midnight, Competitors will be grouped in brackets based on age, rank, and weight.

In order to offer competitors who want to compete in more than one bracket as many options as we can, we set the divisions up so they can enter any Age Division they qualify for  2 times. The Age Divisions overlap.  You choose the age range you want to compete in. 

If you want to enter the same Age Division twice, Choose the category - 2nd Division Youth Shiai.    And select a guidance option,  do you want your second division to be against heaver competitors, higher rank competitors or both.   When we build the brackets, we will make every effort to place competitors according to their guidance options.

So if you are 8 years old  and a yellow belt,  you could enter the 6-7-8 year old division  2 times and ask to be bracketed with your rank level and the next rank group up.  

We are limiting the total number of entries to 4.   Max 2 in an Age Division.

Nanka Tournament Committee reserves the right to make any necessary changes in the best interest of the sport and the competitors. Divisions may be modified at the discretion of the tournament committee.
